Thank you for joining me in the shadows. Pay no attention to that odd silhouette over there. Weird things live here. Where do you hail from?
I live in a small village on the west coast of England. My house is on the top of a hill and it’s a total to bitch to walk up to!
Tell me about your latest book. What makes it stand out from the crowd?
Well, I took one geek, added in a millionaire, gave them a good shake and waited to see what would come out the other end.
Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it?
I am working on the second book in my End of Days Love series. These are my very favorite books and after spending the last year writing pure romance it’s nice to get back to some horror.
What advice would you give to writers just starting out?
Ignore the courses, ignore the groups, ignore everything but the story. You aren’t a writer until you write. So settle down and write. When you’re done write some more, and then some more. Do that for at least a year, more if you can, then come up for air.
It’ll be worth it believe me. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of writing, the end, after 400 pages!
How did you deal with rejection letters? Any tips for unpublished writers?
I have three publishers now that I am very happy with so it is unlikely I would go elsewhere. However…I remember very well how it felt to get those rejection letters. When I sent my first book out everything was done by snail mail and I would get home to see a brown envelope on the doormat…it was a depressing time! My advice would be to believe in yourself…but if you’re getting the same criticism over and over then murder your darlings! It’s the only way.
What tools of the trade are must-haves for you?
My laptop. I don’t need anything else.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to research a story?
Oh lord…erm…one time I had to sit through an hour of, some quite odd, porn. It was a hard job but someone had to do it!
What do you like to read?
Everything! As a teenager I was in love with Anne Rice. In fact, the first book I ever wrote was an epic vampire love story. I also adore Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials, how I love Will and Lyra!), Bernard Cornwell, Susan Gregory, Hugh Howey, Paul Antony Jones and Stephen King.
As an author I read in every genre I possibly can but my true loves are post-apocalyptic, horror and sci-fi, they become something very special for me when a romance is thrown in
Who is your favorite author and why?
It’s impossible to have a favorite author. There are so many talented people out there! That being said, in the past I have contacted authors to let them know how much I enjoyed their work, or to ask for an ARC. I auto-buy the authors that responded, even if it was just a one line response.
Now for the fun questions. Let’s strip away the veil of invisibility. Do you have a day job alongside writing and will you tell us about it?
I do indeed. I’m a math geek in my day job. I spend my time analyzing huge data sets and building mathematical models. It’s completely different to my writing world. It uses a different part of my brain but… There’s always a moment when you work out what the data is telling you and you get a ‘ha ha’ moment, it is very similar to when the plot comes together in a book. I remember…sorry I’m going to bore you now…when I was in my early teens and I realized the relationship between squared and cubed numbers…to bottle that feeling! Gah! I wish I could sprinkle it on everything.
If you weren’t a writer, what career might you have chosen?
Well I wanted to be an astronaut! It didn’t quite work out! But what I do not in my day career is something I enjoy and it compliments the two sides of my personality – the creative and the analytical.
Who is your favorite superhero (or heroine)? Can be from a comic book, movie, novel, cartoon, video game or anywhere else heroes reign.
Lyra from His Dark Materials. I adore that book and her character growth. I adore how she is strong and yet she doesn’t even realize that she is until the later books. Philip Pullman, if you are reading this where the heck is The Book of Dust!
Your favorite book hero?
You know…in all honesty I don’t have one. I’m always drawn to the female characters. I can’t bear a weak minded heroine. Strong heroines are a must for me.
You finally have an evening free to spend any way you want. Money is no object. Where do you go? What would you do?
At home with my family, watching a movie, and eating whatever I like. My spare time is very precious, there is no one I prefer to spend it with than my husband and my children.
You’ve been gifted (or cursed) with the ability to shift into another form by a witch. What kind of shifter are you? Why?
I would like to spend the day with my cat. I’m always fascinated by what she gets up to. Sometimes she’ll be gone for hours and she comes back all self-satisfied. I’d like to know why.
Thanks so much for being my guest today! Anything else you’d like to share with my readers? Don’t forget to give us links to your website etc.
Thanks for having me!

With millions of dollars on the line, Will is positive he can make Kate sell. He’s played the game better than anybody and charming is his middle name. Problem is, the snarky, geeky, computer-wiz is nothing like he imagined—impossibly cute and a match for him in every way.
