Why I love Halloween – Donina Lynn (31 Days of Halloween)

Hello! Thank you for having me as a part of the 31
Days of Halloween!
When I was a kid, I loved Halloween for one simple
reason. Free Candy! House after house, I would smile my sweetest smile, hold
out my trick-or-treat bag and hope for the good stuff. You know what I’m
talking about—getting a full-sized candy bar or treat bag loaded with chocolate
goodness was like winning the lottery!

I have to admit the candy still holds a special
place in my fondness for the day. Seriously, who doesn’t love Reese’s peanut
butter pumpkins? They’re an addiction! My chocoholic status aside, my favorite
part to the holiday now has become the costumes and that ability to turn
yourself into anyone or anything you want for one night.

You can be one of your heroes, or perhaps a villain,
a sexy kitten or even a one-eyed zombie pirate. Oh, so scary! The only limit
placed upon the transformation being your own imagination and perhaps sewing
skills. That’s why they there are costume shops out there. For people like me
who are lucky they can sew a button back on a shirt.

Whether I will see you next to me in the devil
costume aisle or you pull out some clothes from the back of your closet to go
retro, there is one accessory that you can’t forget to make your costume
complete … the mask. What’s the point of taking on a new identity or becoming
all that you wanted to be if everyone knows who you are? In my opinion, a mask
holds the key to any good costume. It kicks it up a notch by adding in some mystery,
excitement and even perhaps a smidgen of romance.

Ok guys and gals, who hasn’t had at least one
fantasy about meeting a sexy stranger at a masquerade or costume party? I know
I have. There is a certain lure and intrigue when you meet someone for the
first time wondering what’s hidden behind the mask. Who are they? What do they
do? Where are they from? There is also that confidence and empowerment you get
knowing they are probably wondering the same.

When I wrote Arms
of Serenity
, I had the hero and heroine meet for the first time at a
masquerade ball for exactly that reason. Having the mask on gave the heroine
that extra push she needed, allowing her to do something she normally wouldn’t
have done —which happened to be a hot hook-up with an equally masked stranger.
That night started their journey to their happily-ever-after. Well, it is a
romance novel after all.  But, you never
know, it could happen.  So, go forth, put
on those masks, stay safe and most of all enjoy the night … something special
just might be waiting for you hidden underneath 😉

Here are some quick Halloween facts and trivia to
amaze that stranger when you do meet them.
One of the most popular Halloween masks
of all times is Michael Myers from the movie Halloween. But, did you know that
the original mask was actually a Captain Kirk mask painted white with some
ruffled hair added?

Over 2 Billion dollars a years is spent
on Halloween Candy in U.S. That’s a whole bunch of candy bars and candy corn.

You have a better chance of scoring some
Reese’s Peanut Butter cups at a two-story home. Ranch houses tend to give out a
Kit Kat and if you’re a straight Hershey’s milk chocolate fan, knock on houses
with brown doors.

In its first full year, The Ouija Board
outsold Monopoly in Salem.

If you see a spider on Halloween, it is
said that it’s a loved one’s spirit watching over you.

The World’s Record for the largest
pumpkin is over 2000 lbs. Think of all the pies you can make with that baby!!
Happy Halloween to all!! J

Author Bio:
Hi! I
live in a small rural Pennsylvania town on the outskirts of the Poconos. As in
small, I mean we don’t even have a traffic light. We do, however, have a DG, a
pizzeria and a Chinese restaurant. Thank goodness! Because, I would probably
starve without takeout and a microwave. Cooking is something I enjoy during the
holidays and for special occasions. But on a normal day, I take full advantage
of a supermarket’s frozen section.

though I was born and raised a country girl, my idea of communing with nature
is gazing out my window while guzzling mass quantities of coffee. Next to the
microwave, my Keurig is my prized possession. Seriously, the inventors of that
gadget deserve an award and are personal heroes of mine.

When I’m
not at my day job, hanging with my family or friends, curled up with my Kindle,
or typing away at the computer, you can find me in front of the TV watching
anything paranormal, sci-fi or a good action flick. Kudos go to any movie or
show that incorporates explosions, big guns, and gratuitous butt shots.
addiction to romance novels started as soon as I could turn a page and has
stayed with me until much later in life when I decided to sit down and give
writing one a whirl. Who knew that decision would have brought me here? I am
extremely grateful it has and hope you enjoy reading about the characters that
have taken up residence in my head. There is a bit of a warning, however. I
have a fondness – bordering on obsession – with the military, public service,
bad boys, and men with bald heads, goatees or tattoos.  Heroes with one or many of these traits might
be a reoccurring theme until I can work through these issues. 🙂
