Interview with Lilliana Anderson

Thank you for joining me in the shadows. Pay no attention to that odd silhouette over there. Weird things live here.  Where do you hail from?
Huh? What silhouette?! *looks around the room frantically, before deciding it’s safe to proceed*
I’m from Australia. Originally, I’m from Sydney’s western suburbs, but now I’m living down in Melbourne.
Tell me about your latest book. What makes it stand out from the crowd?
Too Close, is the prequel to A Beautiful Struggle (although it’s best to read it afterwards). I wrote it in response to readers wanting to know more about Katrina and David’s friendship. What makes it different is that it’s set where I grew up in Sydney, and I haven’t read any books before that are set in Sydney’s west.
Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it?
Yes, I have another ‘Beauty in Between’ novella which will follow Paige from A Beautiful Forever and give readers a bit more insight into her back story.
What advice would you give to writers just starting out?
Read your genre. Read popular books, read not so popular books. Read books that make you want to cringe and books that make you want to work harder at your craft. It’s the best way to learn.
How did you deal with rejection letters? Any tips for unpublished writers?
I sent out my first manuscript and self-published at the same time. I’m not really sure why I chose to do it that way, but it seemed like a good idea to me at the time.
In the end I’m glad that I did, because when I was getting my rejection letters, A Beautiful Struggle and started to take off and had hit the top 200 on Amazon, and the top 10 in the iBookstore. So, while I was a little confused, I wasn’t too fussed.
After that, I decided that I’d prefer to continue self-publishing, there are obviously people who like the way I tell a story, even if the big publishing companies don’t.

What tools of the trade are must-haves for you?
I’m a bit greedy here as I’m a bit of a technology nut. I guess if I had to cut back, I’d say a PC is the most important thing.
But for me, I use my laptop for the majority of my writing at home. I have an iPad and a Kindle to check how my books are formatted. A Windows Surface tablet for writing on the go and a Galaxy Note II so I can still work when I get held up somewhere – it’s also great for working on book covers.
They aren’t all necessary, but they make my life a heck of a lot easier.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to research a story?
I wish I coul
d answer this with something really awesome but, the craziest thing I do is search things on the internet that could be potentially damaging if I were to ever be investigated.

What do you like to read?
I love reading romance and chicklit.
Who is your favorite author and why?
Barbara Kingsolver becauseThePoisonwoodBibleistheonebookIhaverecommendedtoeverypersonI’veevermet.
Now for the fun questions.  Let’s strip away the veil of invisibility. Do you have a day job alongside writing and will you tell us about it?
I don’t. I’m a full-time author.
If you weren’t a writer, what career might you have chosen?
Industrial Relations Advocate.
Who is your favorite superhero (or heroine)? Can be from a comic book, movie, novel, cartoon, video game or anywhere else heroes reign.
Your favorite book hero?
Louis from Interview with a Vampire.
You finally have an evening free to spend any way you want. Money is no object. Where do you go? What would you do?
I pay for a mini sub to take me on the bottom of the ocean in search of a giant squid.
You’ve been gifted (or cursed) with the ability to shift into another form by a witch. What kind of shifter are you? Why?
I’m a doppelganger because they can transform into anything.
Thanks so much for being my guest today! Anything else you’d like to share with my readers?  Don’t forget to give us links to your website etc.

Thanks so much for having me!

Prequel of the Beautiful Series
Release Date – July 30, 2013
Before A Beautiful Struggle, Katrina and David’s friendship was a bond that couldn’t be broken.
Starting with that fated moment when David carried Katrina to the emergency room, we travel back through David’s memories as he waits to hear that his best friend and the one woman he truly cares for is going to survive…
“I can’t lose her. You don’t understand how important she is to me,” I ramble. I guess I’m in shock because all I can think about is the sight of all that blood over Katrina’s beautiful face. “She’s my world. I can’t lose her.”
This is book one in the novella series ‘The Beauty in Between’ the companion series to Lilliana Anderson’s best selling ‘A Beautiful’ series

Bestselling Author of the A Beautiful Series, Alter and the Confidante Trilogy, Lilliana has always loved to read and write, considering it the best form of escapism that the world has to offer.
Australian born and bred, she writes New Adult Romance revolving around her authentically Aussie characters as well as a biographical trilogy based on an ex-Sydney sex worker, named Angelien.
Lilliana feels that the world should see Australia for more than just it’s outback and tries to show characters in more of a city setting.
When she isn’t writing, she wears the hat of ‘wife and mother’ to her husband and four children.
Before Lilliana turned to writing, she worked in a variety of industries and studied humanities and communications before transferring to commerce/law at university.
Originally from Sydney’s Western suburbs, she currently lives a fairly quiet life in suburban Melbourne.
