Vampire Elite by Irina Argo

Thank you for joining me in the shadows. Pay no attention to that odd silhouette over there. Weird things live here.  Where do you hail from?
Irina is originally form Russia. She moved to the US in March 2000.
Jo-An hails from Goose Creek, Texas … never heard of it? Well, Gary Busey was also born there – Gotcha!  She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and then on to California where she has lived ever since.
Tell me about your latest book. What makes it stand out from the crowd?
Irina and Jo-An
Vampire Elite is really about the interaction between vampires and the Amiti, an immortal race created to protect humanity from vampires. Amiti are literally made to be the vampires’ perfect blood source, the perfect complement to vampires in every way. The catch is that when Hathor created the Amiti, she wanted to make sure that vampires didn’t completely dominate them, so when a vampire drinks from an Amiti, it creates a blood-bond that enables the Amiti to control the vampire. And, as we know, vampires like power, and hate to lose control, so before long they found a way around it: if they drained Amiti blood artificially, it lost its power. Soon the vampires were capturing all the Amiti they could, imprisoning them as bloodstock, the free Amiti struck back–and the violence escalated from there. Now the remaining free Amiti are preparing to annihilate all the vampires. And the vampires, of course, are doing whatever they can to keep that from happening. Want to know how it all plays out? Welcome to the world of the Vampire Elite
Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it?
Irina and Jo-An
The first draft of book 2 is ready but there is still a lot of work to be done. It is in a very raw draft form right now. The catch is it incorporates the ancient Egyptian legend which most people are not aware of about the nine Realms—seven of them are spiritual and two are physical, numbers eight and nine. Number eight is our world, where we live now and number nine was the generator of a manifested reality, the place where things were set in motion in order to manifest in our world.
In book two, Arianna with her Gift of Ra, manages to open the portal into the Ninth Realm. This portal was concealed for millennia and suddenly it became reactivated. Now the Amiti Queen and the Keepers of the Key have a new tool to  defeat the vampires. But the question is; do they really want to eliminate theentire vampire race from the face of the earth? Almost all of them have blood-bonds with their vampire lovers who they deeply love.
What advice would you give to writers just starting out?
Irina and Jo-An
Writing the book is the easy part.  Getting it promoted and edited and published is the tough part.  You absolutely must have a professional editor who is verrrrrrrry patient and willing to go that extra mile for you.  Our editor, Laura Holliday,  took our dream and made it a reality.   There are a lot of scam artists out there and can easily entice you to pay them for doing nothing. Get references, check their Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, etc.  Compare pricing for promotional tours, printing, ISBN numbers, copywriting and any ‘promised’ exposure to the book.  Find a SEO that ‘does it all’ – they are out there and you can tell by their Google ranking and other searches.
Keep a current excel spread sheet, or something similar with Websites, urls, email addresses, user names, passwords, groups joined, hyperlinks.
Another  list with everything that you notice needs to be fixed or finished..ADD IT IMMEDIATELY. Carry a small note pad with you or send yourself emails from your phone if you just had an idea.  It is amazing how confusing everything becomes and how much you overlook.
Set up folders in your email account, word and excel. Move the material into the folders as soon as possible, otherwise you spend half your time looking for a particular word document or correspondence with an associate.  Set up an email account in all the medias, use the same user name and password, so make sure they will cover all requirements..12 characters, Upper and lower case, a number, etc. Date everything so that you know you are always working with the most current version.
Back up everything and save, save, save……I lost so many documents because of computer crashes and no back up…..there is nothing more discouraging than having spent several hours on your project and lose it all in one second.
How did you deal with rejection letters? Any tips for unpublished writers?
Irina and Jo-An
Do not waste time on these ‘Dear John’, bearer of bad news letters. They are an anachronism—the last of the dinosaurs; even after sixty-five million years, they still exist. But their era is over. The future is in self-publishing. Nobody can judge your talent. You are your
own judge. Nobody can dictate to you to write or not to write. If you are drawn to it, if it is your soul desire, just go with it and do not listen to anybody. Amazon Kindle opened a new world for everyone who finds their bliss in writing. This is the future of publishing. I am truly convinced that lit. agent as a profession will die off in the near future and I have doubts about the survival of big publishing companies. They just can’t compete with Amazon’s prices and digital books. So do not waste your time on writing query letters, it is a far better investment to put it into your books. Then go with Amazon Kindle.     Irina and Jo-An
What tools of the trade are must-haves for you?
Facebook and bloggers are the best
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to research a story?
Irina—I think the way I research a story is crazy. I go into a meditative state and wait until it will be given to me. I do believe in universal psyche, the soul of the world, which loves to create through us if you allow her to guide you.
What do you like to read?
Irina – Paranormal, Vampire, Romance
Jo-An – Serial killer, like In Cold Blood, Vampire and paranormal.
Now for the fun questions.  Let’s strip away the veil of invisibility. Do you have a day job alongside writing and will you tell us about it?
Irina– I’m a clinical physiologist in a Juvenile correctional facility. I work with young criminal offenders and absolutely love this job. It is challenging as I have to deal with the extremes of human behavior on a regular basis while at the same time it is enormously fulfilling because I feel I am making a difference in their lives.
The clients I work with as a majority were abandoned, neglected, and abused children, they respond very well to kindness and are eager to build a rapport. When you gain their trust, you can introduce a solid structure facilitating the emergence of alternate personalities.
If you weren’t a writer, what career might you have chosen?
Irina–Writing is my dream career, but as I told you, I chose my career long ago. I’m a clinical physiologist. It took an enormous effort to get there—six years of grad school, dissertation process, internship, post doc., plus absolutely crazy licensing exam. I do value this profession and probably will continue practicing at least part time even if my writing career picks up dramatically. I just love it too much.
Who is your favorite superhero (or heroine)? Can be from a comic book, movie, novel, cartoon, video game or anywhere else heroes reign.
Jo-An:  Lee Childs’ Jack Reacher – Independent, strong, capable, smart, free, no possessions possessing him and Wonder Woman
Irina:  Julia Lambert from Somerset Maugham’s Theatre. She was a woman of breathtaking poise and talent, an outstanding actress who allowed some weaknesses but when she was betrayed she did not fall apart. She found the determination and strength to rise above the situation.
You finally have an evening free to spend any way you want. Money is no object. Where do you go? What would you do?
Egypt and hire a professional tour-guide to take me through every aspect of the pyramids.
You’ve been gifted (or cursed) with the ability to shift into another form by a witch. What kind of shifter are you? Why?
Jo-An:   I would shift into a lioness …beautiful, strong, free…and I am a Leo.
Irina— I would shift into a cat.  I have joy within even when everything looks bleak. I love the fluidity, graciousness and nobility of cats. They are amazing creatures. The masterpieces of the universe. My favorite cat’s name is Joy.
Thanks so much for being my guest today! Anything else you’d like to share with my readers?  Don’t forget to give us links to your website etc.

Genre:  Paranormal romance
How can you make a choice between saving your people and destroying the one you love?
A millennia-long war between two immortal races is about to come to an end. Long ago, the Vampire Elite began capturing members of another race of immortal beings, the Amiti, forcing them to become their blood suppliers—bloodstock—and locking them in underground cells, where they are treated like
livestock. Now, the few remaining free Amiti are making a final attempt to strike back. The Queen of the Amiti has been proclaimed a traitor and executed. Her death makes possible the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna, who becomes the last hope of her dying race. Arianna totally embraces her mission and is ready to fight for her people to the last drop of her blood but encounters an unexpected challenge—the vampire King Tor. The Amiti Queen and the King of the vampires are drawn into a trap of love where each has to make the ultimate choice: to kill their loved one or risk the extermination of their people.
Vampire Elite is an epic story of a bitter conflict between two peoples, and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers.
Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, packed with action and intrigue, Vampire Elite will pull you into the entrancing world of immortals and open new portals into their hidden universe.
