A new addition for Christmas – Meet Asheron the cat
Every year my husband asks me what I want for Christmas. I’m not a fancy kind of girl. I like being comfortable. Flannel shirt (plaid, of course), jeans and tennis shoes (or boots) are my usual attire. I can tackle anything the day brings wearing it, work, home repairs, whatever. Expensive jewelry, clothes, make-up, whatever just isn’t my thing. Sure, they are nice, but to me a thirty dollar Wal-Mart ring has the same sentimental value as a diamond ring from anywhere else. It’s the gifter, not the gift.
I ask for things that can’t be bought. An afternoon of quiet time to write is at the top of my list. Still, Jackie keeps asking, because surely there must be some physical object I want that he can purchase from a store other than a book. (Jackie does not book shop…ever.) So I asked him for…a cat.
Yep. I am a cat person. Growing up, I always had at least one cat and I’m partial to black cats. The thing is Jackie is a dog person. He hates strongly dislikes cute furry kitties. I don’t hold it against him. He’s always had hunting dogs (not good for kitties.) I’ve lost count of all the newborn puppies, stray and mistreated dogs I have tended over the years. He caved when Anna was in kindergarten and let us adopt a kitten, but after Luna went missing, his answer was a firm “No.”
The other night he finally gave in, “If that’s what you want then okay.” So, last Wednesday, Anna came home from church with this little guy. His name is Asheron (Ash for short. I might have mentioned before that I’m a Sherrilyn Kenyon fan.) He’s about six months old, solid black with gold eyes. He was born with a broken tail, so it has a hook shape to it. I’m sure that is why he was the last of his litter to find a home, but we think it gives him character and love him very much! As you can imagine, the girls have him very spoiled already. Ash has been granted the extreme privelege of staying inside he house. He likes to curl up on Anna’s bed (he won’t sleep anywhere else) with the TV on or sit on top of her dresser and look out the window. So cute!
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!
